Onsite Sewage

Onsite Sewage

The Onsite Sewage Program protects public health and the environment by ensuring that septic systems are properly planned, installed, and maintained. Improperly functioning systems can lead to groundwater contamination and pose serious health risks, so our role is to ensure safe and effective wastewater management for homes and businesses not connected to a municipal sewer system.

Our team conducts on-site soil evaluations to determine if a property is suitable for a septic system and reviews all installation drawings before issuing permits. We guide property owners and contractors through the installation process using state regulations and issue variances when appropriate under local policy.

After installation, we inspect systems to ensure compliance with health regulations. We also provide continuing education for certified installers to help maintain high standards across our communities. If violations or health hazards arise, we are authorized to take enforcement action to ensure corrective steps are taken.

If you're building on a property with no sewer connection or need a soil evaluation or permit, contact our Onsite Sewage Program using the guide below.
