   November Employee of the Month

Diane Eakles was chosen as November’s Employee of the Month.  Christine Hanshaw nominated her said, “Diane always does everything she can to help our diabetic patients.  This month, she went above and beyond the expected with a particular patient.  When Diane did her initial assessment, she learned that this patient had had a wound on her big toe for about a month (an urgent situation for a diabetic person.)  She called the patient’s primary care provider, who wanted to see her before he made the referral to a surgeon.  After seeing her, he did make the referral, but the doctor’s staff did not make the appointment that day or the next.  Diane called the surgeon’s office to try to make the appointment herself and was told the surgeon wouldn’t see the patient until records from her previous surgery on the toe were received from the podiatrist.  Diane called the patient and confirmed that the patient had never had surgery, only would care, and that was on a different toe!  Diane straightened this out with the surgeon’s office staff and they made an appointment for the patient on Monday, the next office day.  Diane even called the patient on Sunday to make sure she got the message about her Monday morning appointment with the surgeon, since she had not actually talked to the patient on Friday, only left a message.  Diane’s persistence and determination to get the patient an appointment with the surgeon may have saved the woman’s foot!”

Diane started at BRDHD in August 1994 and has worked in Medical Clinic, Health Education, Diabetes Level III Program, Clinic, and now works with the Diabetes Center of Excellence.  Diane likes the preventive side of her job, “I like helping people change their behaviors.”

Diane has been married to her wonderful husband and soulmate, Charles for 12 years.  She has three children: Josh, Sherrell, and Jordan and three grandchildren: Anna, Makaylee, and Ryley.  Diane’s hobbies are going to yard sales, shopping at consignment stores and gardening.

 Congratulations Diane!
