FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Flu Shots Still Available
Flu season is typically during the coldest part of the year but with the
mild winter we have had so far, many people have not protected
themselves or their families. Flu season is not over yet. In fact, there
is still time to get your flu shot and be protected for the rest of the
season. The Barren County Health Department still has vaccine and we
have reduced the price to $10 per person.
Influenza, or flu, is a very contagious disease caused by the flu virus,
which spreads from infected persons to the nose and throat of others.
Flu can lead to pneumonia and can be dangerous for the elderly, young
children, or those with heart or breathing conditions. Influenza is
responsible for approximately 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths
annually in the United States.
It is important to get vaccinated early because it takes a couple of
weeks for your body to build its immunity to the flu after getting the
vaccination. Now is a good time to get vaccinated because according to
Julia Davidson, Clinical Director of the Barren River District Health
Department, last year’s flu season didn’t peak until March. Supplies of
the flu vaccine are limited so call the Barren County Health Department
at (270) 651-8321 to set up your appointment today.
