Children of all ages need
complete health checkups on a regular basis to promote
better health for their future. With scheduled
checkups minor health problems in children can be caught
before they become serious. Physical, mental or
developmental problems can also be found and treated
early. Immunizations can be given at routine
checkups to prevent childhood diseases such as
chickenpox, mumps or measles.
Areas of health care that
are checked during exams are:

Growth and development
Vision and hearing
Immunization status
Nutrition
Age appropriate health
education for parents
Lab tests including
blood lead level
Teeth
Mental Health and
substance abuse
Children should get health
check-ups regularly on or before the ages listed below:
1 month
2 months

Yearly for ages 10-20
School Physicals are
required prior to school entry, which includes Head
Start, Preschool, Kindergarten (if one was not done
prior to Head Start or Preschool) and prior to entry
into the Sixth (6th) Grade. Schools physicals are
available at your doctor or any of the Barren River's
eight county centers.
They are provided at no cost to Medicaid and KCHIP-eligible
children, can be billed for Kentucky Employees Health
Plan (Humana) and can be provided to families on a
sliding scale fee based on household size and income
eligibility.
