The Environmental Services Branch serves the public by enforcing various laws and regulations relating to public health and acts in an advisory capacity regarding community health hazards. The major BRDHD Environmental programs are:
Rodent and Vector Control: To control potential breeding sites, BRDHD collects mosquitoes and birds for monitoring WestNile Virus; investigates and provides assistance and information for removing rodents and vectors form areas; and supplies rat bait at a nominal fee.
Rabies Control: BRDHD acts in an advisory capacity when an animal is suspected of being rabid and requires the owner to quarantine an animal involved in a human exposure suspected of being rabid. BRDHD staff also coordinates with local veterinaries to conduct rabies vaccination clinics.
Public Facilities: BRDHD provides permits and/pr inspection services for various public facilities including mobile home and recreational vehicle parks, spas, and beaches, hotels/motels, recreational areas and public buildings, youth camps, schools, tattoo and body piercing facilities.
Swimming Pool Inspections: Public swimming pools are inspected twice yearly with emphasis on safety, sanitation and water quality. Follow-up and monitoring inspections are done every 30 days as needed.
Radon: BRDHD provides radon education and awareness, radon testing and advising and assisting homeowners with mitigation.
