To protect food sold to the public, BRDHD Environmental Services approves permits for food establishments, conducts sanitation inspections of restaurants, school cafeterias, retail grocery stores, food transportation vehicles, vending machines and other venues that sell food to the public and supports the education on food safety and food handling.
To further ensure the education on food safety and handling, BRDHD Environmental Services conducts Food Manager Certification classes that complies with regulations adopted in 2005 by the BRDHD District Board of Health. This regulation requires that least one Certified Food Manager be on staff of all food service establishments. A food service establishment is any place that routinely serves food, including nursing homes, hospitals and schools but does not include grocery stores that only cut, slice and prepare cold cut sandwiches to sell.
