Preterm (PT) and Late Preterm Births (LPT): Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait!
A normal pregnancy lasts about nine calendar months, which is 40 weeks. Preterm birth is birth before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy, and it is the leading cause of newborn death. Many preterm babies survive but suffer lifelong problems, even if they were born just a few weeks early. Some preterm births cannot be avoided, but many can be prevented by addressing the known risk factors. Healthy Babies are Worth the Waitsm is a partnership with Kentucky Department of Public Health, March of Dimes and area birthing hospitals to reduce the growing number of preterm births.
