Unintentional Injury Reports 2000-2003 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
What’s Luck Got to Do With It?In the past, injuries were referred to as “accidents,” a term that implied the events were unpredictable, and that avoiding them involved little more than good fortune. The word “injury” is used now and the focus is on changing behaviors and environmental factors for prevention.
These reports present a picture of injury as a health problem affecting residents of the Barren River District Health Department's service area in South Central Kentucky. Data taken from numerous sources has been compiled for a snapshot to tell us:
The reports were funded through a grant by the Kentucky State Police Governor's Highway Traffic Safety Program. Our activities focused on the collection of injury data from local hospital emergency departments and extensive seatbelt usage studies in each county of our service area. We hope this information will be helpful to all who are working to reduce costly injuries in our area. If you have questions about the reports, you can e-mail Crissy Rowland or call at 270-781-8039, 120. In an effort to make downloading quicker, each county report has been divided into 3 parts, each containing the following information: Part 1 - Cover, Letter of Introduction, Table of Contents, Introduction, Injury Death Overview, Nonfatal Injuries Overview and Intentional Injuries
