WORLD AIDS DAY

Bowling Green, Ky (November 21, 2006) December 1, 2006 is World AIDS Day, the international day of action aimed at raising awareness and halting the spread of HIV. This year is the twenty-fifth anniversary of HIV and yet numbers of people infected are still rising by 5 million every year. In observance of World AIDS Day, on November 30, 2006, Barren

River District Health Department and Western Kentucky University will be partnering to provide various events. These events include: 

§ Free anonymous Oral HIV testing that will be held at Downing University Center on the third floor from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  This will be open to ONLY Western Kentucky University students, faculty, and staff.

§ A candlelight vigil will be held at the Guthrie Bell Tower starting at 6 p.m.  All Western Kentucky University students, faculty, and staff are invited as well as any community members who would like to participate.  All participants will receive a free, commemorative tee shirt to wear during the vigil.

§ A free showing of the movie “Rent” will be held at the Downing University Center Theater starting at 7 p.m.  Following the conclusion of the movie, an expert panel will be available to answer any questions regarding HIV/AIDS.
