Disaster Preparedness

Our disaster response and recovery staff work very closely with local agencies on issues dealing with natural disasters, bioterrorism incidents and other public health emergencies.  They are responsible for updating agency response plans and for developing, conducting and facilitating trainings for both health department staff and the community.  They also serve on community-based committees that deal with issues related to disaster preparedness.  They also:

• Provide new employee orientation to new BRDHD employees
• Serve on BRDHD's Epi Rapid Response Team
• Teach and recruit members for Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).
• Implement Project Public Health Ready (PPHR)
• Participate in the design and implementation of annual emergency exercises
• Serve as a liaison between the state and local health departments and establish relationships with community leaders and partner organizations
• Respond to public health emergencies and implement the National Incident Management System.
