General Sanitation

Activity in general sanitation programs is often based on requests from the public.  Citizens may request sampling and testing on private water supplies for a nominal fee.  Problems such as those with garbage or sewage disposal, animals being kept in enclosed areas, etc. may be considered public health nuisances.

Animal bites must be reported to the health department, who will quarantine the animal for 10 days.  If the animal dies or is killed, staff make sure that head is submitted to the state lab in Frankfort for diagnosis.

Inspections of public facilities such as schools, hotels, motels, mobile home parks and RV parks also fall into the general sanitation category.
