Preparedness Branch

Faith Based Organization Information

 

  • Design, develop, and implement an emergency plan based on the National Association of County & City Health Officials' (NACCHO) Project Public Health Ready (PPHR) criteria for BRDHD staff and volunteers to be used during a man-made or natural disaster.
     

  • Facilitate monthly Hospital Emergency Area 4 Response Team (HEART) meetings with local hospitals, EMS, mental health, coroners, American Red Cross, Emergency Management, police, and fire to develop plans and protocols for Region IV response
     

  • Implement the National Incident Management System (NIMS).  This is a document written by Homeland Security that instructs all local, state, and federal agencies how to effectively respond to an incident.
     

  • Assure BRDHD staff have appropriate NIMS training.
     

  • Establish relationships with community leaders and partner organizations for on-going assessment and enhancement of disaster preparedness.
     

  • Conduct trainings with BRDHD staff concerning disaster response.
     

  • Provide new employee orientation to new BRDHD employees.
     

  • Participate in the design and implementation of emergency exercises that occur annually within our district.
     

  • Serve as a liaison between the state and local health departments.
     

  • Respond to public health emergencies and advise health department leadership on response.
     

  • Attend trainings and meetings specific for preparedness.
     

  • Keep communication materials up-to-date and accurate
     

  • Serve on community – based committees that deal with issues related to disaster preparedness.
     

  • Teach and recruit members for Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).
     

  • Teach basic disaster preparedness to the community.
     

  • Work with Long Term Care (LTC) subcommittee of the HEART group to provide training and plan development support.

 

Here are the training programs available through this branch:

  • Disaster Preparedness Awareness classes for

    • Schools

    • Seniors

    • Churches

    • Civic Organizations

    This class will cover disasters possible in Kentucky, Individual and Family Disaster Planning, assembling a Disaster Supplies Kit, and an introducation to Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).  Contact Ann Bray.
     

  • CERT-educates people about disaster preparedness, trains in basic disaster response and disaster medical operations.
     

  • MRC-trains community volunteers to assist medical response teams during a local disaster.
     

  • IS-700-introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
     

  • IS-100 and IS-200-introducation to Incident Command System (ICS) and are FEMA courses required for emergency responders, public health and hospitals to
    be compliant with Homeland Security requirements.
     

  • IS-300 and 400
     

  • PREPARE for LTC facilities-educates centers on how to prepare for emergency situations in order to meet the needs of long-term care residents during a disaster.
     

  • Psychological Impact of Disaster and Catastrophic Events-training includes topics such as:  types of trauma caused by disaster, phases of disaster, risk factors that make disasters and terrorists events psychologically toxic for survivors and responders.
     

  • General Disaster Preparation trainings including:  Pandemic Influenza, Personal Preparedness, and Natural Disaster Preparedness.
